About Jen

Jennifer (Jen) has called British Columbia home for more than thirty years, with the past twenty-eight spent in the unique island community of Sointula. Here, she raised her family and forged a deep-rooted appreciation for the power and value of community.
With three decades of professional experience at the intersection of economics, conservation, climate change, and reconciliation, Jen brings a nuanced understanding of the essential components that contribute to healthy, resilient, and thriving communities. Her academic background includes a Master of Arts in Climate Action Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, but she credits the people who work and live along the coast as her greatest teachers. Their wisdom and lived experience have taught her what truly works for coastal communities facing today’s challenges.
Jen’s passion lies in nurturing vibrant communities where traditional industries such as commercial fishing and logging remain sustainable for future generations. She is a strong advocate for supporting emerging economic opportunities, and ensuring that households and local governments receive the resources they need to adapt to tomorrow’s climate realities. Her vision for the coast is one where innovation and tradition work hand in hand.
As a single mother who raised two children in a rural setting, Jen understands first-hand the determination, resilience, and necessity of strong local support networks. She is dedicated to ensuring that young people have the opportunities to thrive.

“Having raised my family and built my career on the North Island, I understand that our communities are defined by compassion, responsibility, and practicality. I am committed to championing these values for all of us.
